Using version history and rolling back entries

How to view historical snapshots of entries in SCHMA Studio, inspect previous revisions, and safely restore earlier versions into working drafts.

Before you begin

  • A SCHMA workspace
  • Editor, Admin, or Owner permissions
  • An existing content entry with saved changes

Every change made to a content entry in SCHMA is tracked as an immutable historical revision. Version history gives editorial teams the confidence to edit, experiment, and collaborate knowing that prior states can always be inspected and recovered.

Snapshots and entry revision tracking

Whenever an editor saves a draft or publishes an entry, SCHMA creates a timestamped snapshot of all field values. Snapshots record the author, modification timestamp, entry status, and a full JSON capture of the field data at that exact point in time.

Opening the Version History panel

To inspect prior revisions of any entry: open the entry in the Studio editor and click the History button (clock icon) in the top-right toolbar. The Version History Sidebar slides open, displaying a reverse-chronological list of all saved snapshots.

  • Timestamp & Author: Displays when the revision was saved and which workspace user committed it.
  • Status Indicator: Marks whether the snapshot represents a saved draft or an official publication event.
  • Field Diff: Highlights which fields were modified compared to the previous revision.

Restoring historical versions into a draft

Hover over any historical snapshot in the sidebar and click Restore. SCHMA will prompt you for confirmation before loading the historical field values into your active editor canvas.

Discarding staged edits vs restoring

If you have unsaved or staged draft edits that you want to wipe clean without picking a historical version, use Discard Draft. In the entry status dropdown, click Discard Draft Changes. This immediately reverts your editor back to the live published state and removes any uncommitted draft modifications.

Production safety and publish confirmation

Once you have restored a historical snapshot and made any necessary adjustments, review the fields in the editor or through Visual Live Preview. When ready, click Publish to update the Delivery API and invalidate edge caches.
